Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Filebird is built so that your files stay on your device. This policy explains what that means in practice, what little data is involved in running the website, and the choices you have.
Your files never leave your device
Every tool on Filebird (converting, compressing, merging, signing, OCR and the rest) runs inside your web browser using code that is downloaded to your device. The files you choose are read and processed locally, in your device's memory.
We do not upload, receive, store, view or share the files you process, their contents, or their file names. We have no server that could receive them. When you close the page, the files and results are gone unless you downloaded them.
What is stored on your device
To make the site faster and more convenient, some information is kept in your browser's own storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us:
- Your theme choice (dark or light).
- The tools you used recently, and the options you last chose in each tool (passwords are never saved).
- Recipes you save, and your signature if you tick "remember" in the Sign tool.
- A copy of the website's pages and processing engines (offline cache), so Filebird loads quickly and works without an internet connection.
- Files you share to Filebird from your phone's share menu, kept only until the tool opens them.
Clearing stored information
You can remove everything above at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings (often called "Cookies and site data"). Uninstalling the Filebird app from your device removes it too.
Data involved in running the website
Filebird is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any website, when your browser requests a page, Cloudflare's servers receive standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and protect it against abuse, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Some tools download their processing engine the first time you use them (for example the video engine and the OCR language data) from the jsDelivr content network (cdn.jsdelivr.net). Only the engine is downloaded; none of your files or data are sent.
We do not run analytics or tracking scripts, we do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address or other personal details through the tools.
Advertising and cookies
To keep Filebird free, we may show advertising. When ads are shown, they are provided by third-party vendors, including Google. These vendors use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure how ads perform.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), and learn more about how Google uses information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or www.youronlinechoices.eu.
Where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before cookies are used for personalised ads, and you can change your choice at any time. Ad providers never receive the files you process.
Children
Filebird is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data through the tools, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you have rights over personal data held about you. For data processed by Cloudflare or advertising partners, you can exercise those rights with them directly, or contact us and we will help.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Filebird handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top.
